A BAD NIGHT'S SLEEP FOR ROSEBUD YOUTH

On Friday the 8th of April 2011, A Group of young people slept rough on the Rosebud Village Green for a cause. The cause was to bring to the attention of the Local community residing on the Southern Peninsula that Youth Homelessness is a rising issue that is clearly over looked. As a part of National Youth Week 2011 a committee of young people planned the event "No sleep till" sleepout 2011.

The aim of the event was to have community members of all walks of life to experience a "bad nights sleep" out on the Rosebud Village green and replicate what young people whom maybe homeless experience every night. Up 50 local community members roughed it for the night in windy conditions. Equipped with the bare essentials one young person commented that "even though this is a warm night, I could not imagine what it would be like in the middle of winter with thin blankets, no pillow or shelter. I am cold now!"

100% of the Monies raised from the event is to be donated to Vinnies Kitchen, a community group that provides daily hot meals for homeless and lonely people.

The 'No Sleep till" sleepout committee members would like to thank the following businesses for their donations:
Greg's Family Gourmet Butcher, Rosebud
Bakers Delight, Rosebud
Rosebud Fruit and Veg Market, Rosebud
We would also like to thank members from the Boneo Loins Club for cooking the BBQ with the donated goods, and Councillor Antonella Celi for taking the time to speak at the event and help raise the profile of this important issue.

SO… WHERE TO FROM HERE? Mornington Peninsula Shire Youth Service are now looking to raise the profile even higher within the community in regards to Youth homelessness. We would love to hear your ideas…
