Funded by the Department of Planning and Community Development the Skate and Create program involves the development of a committee of young people who over the period of the program develop leadership and technical skills concerning skateboarding and their local skate parks. As part of the process the young people working alongside relevant council departments to improve both their local skate park and the public perception of young people who utilise skate parks. The Skate and Create Program commenced in January 2009 and will over a 3 year cycle develop program committees in 6 township groupings.

Each committee will develop strategies for better management of local skate parks, propose new ideas to council to help shape existing facilities and develop plans for future recreational multi use areas such as skate parks within their township grouping area.

‘Skate and Create’ engages young people in the development of community participation events, skateboarding workshops, family skate days, clean up initiatives, production of a skate DVD and tours of regional skate parks.

Each group will encourage multi user alliances all whilst having fun at skate parks.

Weekly group meetings will focus on digitally documenting the program, educational and personal skill development, enhancing community awareness, and event management.
